Martin Barker, da Universidade de Gales em Aberystwyth, lançou em dezembro de 2003 o International Lord of the Rings Audience Research Project [Projeto de Pesquisa da Audiência Internacional do Senhor dos Anéis], cujos resultados provisórios são mostrados neste site. O site galês ic Wales também tem uma matéria sobre o assunto. Valerá a pena esperar as conclusões finais, que ainda estão no futuro. É interessante ler que para 60% dos respondentes o livro foi a principal fonte de expectativa para o filme. Isso demonstra que, além de o filme estimular as pessoas a lerem, é também freqüente o fenômeno inverso - entusiastas dos livros de Tolkien que queriam ver seu mundo retratado na tela. Quase a metade dos respondentes leu o livro todo mais de uma vez, e mais de 80% assistiram mais de uma vez aos filmes componentes. 47,9% dos respondentes - divididos igualmente entre mulheres e homens - têm idades entre 16 e 25 anos; há esperança entre os jovens!

It is interesting to read that for 60% of the respondents the book was the main source of expectation for the movie. This demonstrates that, besides the movie stimulating people to read, the inverse phenomenon is also frequent - enthusiasts of Tolkien's books who wanted to see his world portrayed on screen.
