O número 182 de Amon Hen - O Boletim da Tolkien Society - publicou uma carta de uma sócia que leu uma entrevista com Peter Jackson na revista do Lord of the Rings Fan Club (www.lotrfanclub.com). As explicações de PJ sobre um ponto importante são resumidas por ela: - "[...] a questão do papel de Faramir foi proposta a ele. [...] como a intenção da SDA fora convencer os espectadores do PODER do anel, e do fato de que ele corrompe a TODOS que têm contato com ele [...] não podiam fazer Faramir dizer sua fala de "mesmo que o encontrasse na estrada...", pois isso diminuiria o aspecto do "PODER do anel" (da mesma forma com Tom Bombadil). Ele disse que tinha consciência de que o retrato de Faramir causaria desconforto e, apesar de isso ser lamentável, era a única coisa que podia fazer. Não queria que os espectadores fossem desviados do assunto do PODER do anel em nenhum ponto, pensando "bem, então não afeta a todos...". Disse também que lamentava muito tudo isso, pois não gostava de retratar Faramir sob essa luz, mas que era a única coisa que podia fazer." - Esperemos que não se trate de uma explicação a posteriori!

Issue No. 182 of Amon Hen - The Bulletin of the Tolkien Society - published a letter from a member who read an interview with Peter Jackson in the magazine of the Lord of the Rings Fan Club (www.lotrfanclub.com). PJ's explanations about an important point are summarised by her: - "[...] the question of Faramir's role was put to him. [...] as the whole point of FOTR had been to instil into cinemagoers the POWER of the ring and the fact that it corrupts ALL who come into contact with it [...] they couldn't then have Faramir doing his "even if I found it on the highway..." bit as this would detract from the 'POWER of the ring' aspect. (Likewise with Tom Bombadil). He said that he realised that Faramir's portrayal would cause upset and although this was unfortunate, it was the only thing he could do. He didn't want the cinemagoers to be sidetracked at any point from the POWER of the ring by thinking "well, it doesn't affect everyone then...". He also said he was very sorry about this as he didn't like to portray Faramir in this light either, but it was the only thing he could do." - Let us hope that this is not an explanation after the fact!
